Discover Megève

Among the most prestigious ski resorts, Megeve is the perfect incarnation of the French art of living. An authentic charm, chic, a discrete atmosphere filled with elegance and an alpine environment of medium altitude give it its reputation as "Little Switzerland of the Alps".

The atmosphere

Megeve is appreciated for its gastronomy (Flocons de Sel***, Le 1920**, La Table de l’Alpaga*), its shopping in the chic and brand shops in the centre, its ski resort, its panoramas among the most beautiful views of Mont Blanc, charming cottages, etc .

But the soul of Megeve lies in its magnificent village centre whose pedestrian streets revolve around the mythical Place de l'Église.

Postcard vision at nightfall: the large christmas tree decorated by Swarovski, the illuminated façade of the Allard shop, the carriages and their horses as well as the light games on the church make the famous Place de l'Église an enchanting setting that has attracted lovers of Megeve for decades.

The architecture

The timeless charm of Megeve is due to an essential factor: this village, at the confluence of Mont BlancBeaufortain and Aravis, existed before the advent of skiing.

The development of tourism has not degraded its architecture, heritage and charm, quite the contrary.

From there comes his membership card of the very and closed club "Best of the Alps" resorts.

Megeve is a village of the mid-altitude mountain, with a tradition that is both rural due to its history and heritage, and chic thanks to the influence of the Rothschild family. Megeve is sublime in its preserved architecture (many farmhouses "frozen" in time or renovated, rustic or luxurious chalets .), its landmark location facing the Mont Blanc and its historic village centre.

Area

Situated in a pass at an altitude of 1000m, the lively Megeve is also a crossroads between Chamonix, the Mont Blanc region, and Val d'Arly, which serves Albertville, Grenoble, Lyon.

A great advantage: Megeve is only an hour from Geneva International Airport.

Megeve is nestled in the hollow formed by the meeting of the impressive chain of Aravis and the Beaufortain massif. The different districts and the Megeve ski area such as the Mont d'Arbois, Rochebrune, Jaillet and Princesse are therefore dependent on this heterogeneous topography, flaring and very complementary.

Skiing in Megeve

In Megeve, discover a ski area of 324 hectares, with no less than 400 km of ski slopes. Its 188 slops are serviced by 86 lifts. You will ski in an atmosphere mixing alpine meadows, fir forests and wide open spaces: something to feel lost in the mountains.

For the youngest and the least experienced, Megeve has many wide and gentle slopes, ideal for families. The more experienced will appreciate the wide open spaces and the many red and black slopes.

Megeve's centre

The center of Megeve, mainly pedestrian, allows its residents a direct access to the slopes thanks to the cable car Le Chamois. A great advantage since the cable car takes you from the center to the departure of Rocharbois. Contraction of the names Rochebrune and Mont d'Arbois, this gondola connects the aforementioned areas.

Rochebrune

The chalets and apartments of Rochebrune offer a prime location close to the center and mostly within walking distance. Rather residential, Rochebrune offers fine establishments such as StefanoLe Délicium and a little further, the meeting point of night owls, La Sauvageonne.

The slopes or the departure of the ski lifts (Les Grands Champs or the emblematic Super Megeve cable car) are never far from the chalets. The area of Rochebrune, oriented North and East, generally offers the best snowfall of Megeve.

It forms a mountainous cirlce that stops at the impressive and breathtaking Aiguilles Croches and offers a wide variety of trails: ballade between the pines at the Petite Fontaine, boulevard on the Super M, technical descent at the 2000 coast, etc.

The Alpette, the restaurant of Lake Javen, and the Auberge de la Côte 2000 are among the many altitude restaurants that will delight skiers and walkers: views, serenity, gastronomy.

Mont d'Arbois

Linked by Rocharbois, the massif of Mont d'Arbois is the largest domain of Megeve. It is also the most popular area for accommodation.

This peaceful residential area is located only 5 minutes from the center, accessible by foot through the charming footpath of the Calvaire. Mont d'Arbois forms a balcony that stretches for several kilometers overlooking the village

Here, the most luxurious chalets, such as the chalet des Sens and the twin chalets Polaris 1 and Polaris 2, and fine dining restaurants are spread along the Mont d'Arbois ski area.

Starting from the base, at the Mont d'Arbois parking lot, you begin your ascension with the Mont d'Arbois gondola to reach your first viewpoint, Mont d'Arbois at 1 840m. You then continue with the Mont Joux chair lifts to access Mont Joux at 1 958m. From there, continue your climb with either the Epaule chair lift to reach a beautiful viewpoint onto the valley and the Mont Blanc or head for Mont Joly at 2 353m for yet another stunning viewpoint. Enjoy both the skiing and the scenery so unique to Megeve's ski area.

From the high viewpoints of the ski area, between the Mounts and the glaciers, there are the valleys of Saint-Gervais-Les-Bains and Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroceis.

The Grande Épaule trail, which swings behind Mont Joux, joins Saint Nicolas de Véroce (accessible with the Domaine Évasion Mont Blanc ski pass), offering breathtaking views of the glaciers and a mastered technical skill.

Jaillet

The Jaillet area and its ski area offer the best views of the Mont Blanc. The chalets located at the foot of the massif offer a quick access to the center, which is within walking distance. The heights of the Jaillet and the Riglard district offer stunning views on the granitic peaks of Mont Blanc.

Megeve is connected to the resorts of Giettaz and Combloux. Very sunny, the Jaillet caters to skiers who like to see beautiful landscapes, sunbathing and ski-terrace. However, the connection with La Giettaz offers its share of technical tracks.

It should also be noted that the Compagnie du Mont Blanc has already invested heavily in infrastructure and is planning to continue its efforts to acquire the Megeve ski area.
